Following the conclusion of the National Junior Chess Championship, the Guyana Chess Federation will now look to stage the Seniors National Qualifiers which is slated to begin on November 6. The tournament will be hosted at the usual venue for Chess, the National Racquet Center located in Woolford Avenue.
This tournament will be played in seven rounds with a time control of one hour plus 30 minutes sudden death.
All eyes will be on CM Wendell Meusa who will be aiming for his 3rd title
It is particularly rewarding for the up and coming champions, who will have the opportunity to face National Champion, Wendell Meusa in the Round Robin style event.
Among the big names turning out for this tournament, are top players such as WFM Maria Thomas, CM Taffin Khan, WCM Anthony Drayton and other senior players. Also in the mix will be just crowned Junior Champion, Saeed Ali and his sister WCM Sherrifa Ali along with Roberto Neto who have all earned their spot among the seniors.
These players will seek to dethrone CM Wendell Meusa of his title to stop him from winning it for the third time. CM Wendell Meusa has recently transferred from Barbados Chess Federation to Guyana Chess Federation with a FIDE rating of 1967 making him the highest FIDE rated player.
