Social Sciences hard-pressed to retain title

On the eve of the University of Guyana (UG) annual Inter Faculty Track and Field Championship 2017 at the Leonora Track and Field Stadium, other faculties have thrown out strong warnings to defending champions Social Sciences for the prestigious title.
The event is scheduled to commence at 9:00h tomorrow with the 5000m (Men) followed by field events and the heats for the sprint races. The March Past of participating faculties will be at 11:30h with the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ivelaw Griffith, expected to take the salute. The faculties are Agriculture & Forestry, Education & Humanities, Earth & Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Technology, University of Guyana Berbice Campus (UGBC) and Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE).

Cleveland Forde

The defending champions, Faculty of Social Sciences will be challenged to retain their title since the Faculty of Education & Humanities has thrown down the gauntlet especially at the international venue and not at the Turkeyen Campus which hosted the previous University games.
Also there will be the crowning of a new male champion athlete and sprint king since Cleveland Forde and Emanuel Archibald, the defending champions respectively will not be participating. Forde has graduated and Archibald is on scholarship in Jamaica.
On the distaff side, the competition will be thrilling since the defending female champion will have Kezia Bess making a strong bid for the position. They are both from the Faculty of Education & Humanities. Osafa DosSantos will also be representing this faculty.
There is no entrance fee being charged and an invitation is extended to the public to spend the day with the University Community as they compete and showcase their athletic ability.
