Some residents to receive electricity for 1st time by year-end

…“It came as a surprise” – ecstatic Kwakwani resident

Scores of residents located in the outlying areas of Kwakwani, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), are set to now have access to a stable supply of electricity before the year ends.

General Manager David Adams

This disclosure was made by Kwakwani Utilities Incorporated General Manager, David Adams, who was at the time spearheading the kickstart of the project in the latter part of Potville that was once jet black.
According to Adams, the area has been developed for some 10 years now and was lacking a basic essential service.
The project will see some 15 households in the area benefitting from the get-go.
Andrew Williams, a resident who has been residing in the vicinity for some three years, related that he was unsuccessful in his endeavours to acquire electricity to his home over the years and was in shock when he was greeted with the long-awaited news in the short stint of the newly appointed General Manager.
“It came as a surprise to me because the process was so quick; I waited for three years for this day,” the ecstatic Williams affirmed
Williams said he felt as though he was being victimised because of his far-reaching location and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the management and staff of the utility company.

“I was in a constant battle due to the distance which I live and I must say a high thank you to the manager and staff of KUI,” he affirmed.
Adams told Guyana Times that the implementation of this project is amongst others that stems from the Government’s mandate to improve the lives of every Guyanese. “KUI management is executing the mandate of the Government to improve the lives of the residents of Kwakwani in providing sustainable electricity, water distribution and expansion of the Kwakwani Television Station, which now has the capabilities to transmit its signal to far-reaching villages in the Upper Berbice River,” Adams said.
Adams added that other areas to receive electricity for the first time before 2021 concludes are Airstrip and Jonestown, which has been rapidly expanding over the years.
In addition to the 900-kilowatt genset commissioned by Prime Minister, Brigadier (ret’d) Mark Phillips last November to put an end to four agonising years of blackout seizures, KUI’s rehabilitation of the power plant electrical distribution grid enables residents to access a free flow of undisrupted power supply.
