Police destroy $22.8M worth of ganja found along Canje Creek

Some $22.8 million worth of ganja was found and set on fire on Tuesday, during a drug eradication exercise at Long Savannah, Canje Creek, Region Six.
Based on reports received, three cannabis farms covering approximately 10.5 acres, with an estimated 53,500 cannabis plants ranging from four inches to six feet in height, were discovered during the operation.
The first farm, which measured about six acres, contained a total of 30,000 cannabis plants, a makeshift camp, a drying area, and about 20 pounds of dried cannabis. The second farm, measuring four acres, had about 20,000 cannabis plants, along with two makeshift camps and a nursery containing 9600 cannabis seedlings in 75 trays.
In addition, the third farm, measuring about half an acre, contained an estimated 3500 cannabis plants.
Furthermore, a single-barrel shotgun, four shotgun cartridges, and a multi-coloured haversack containing three rounds of matching ammunition, two live rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one live round of .32-calibre ammunition were found during the exercise.
The cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed along with the makeshift camps, drying area, and dried cannabis.
The estimated cost for the cannabis plants stands at $13,043,800, while the plants in the nursery are estimated at $1,626,240. The dried cannabis is suspected to be worth $8,164,656, for a total of $22,834,696. At the time of the operation, no arrests were made.
