Son charged for killing father

A 21-year-old man, who allegedly shot his father at Siparuni Backdam, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), during a drinking spree was on Friday arraigned at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts for manslaughter.
Dintus John, a pork-knocker of Paramakatoi Village, Region Eight, appeared before Magistrate Delon Bess and was not required to plea to the charge when it was read to him.
Particulars of the charge stated that the 21-year-old man, on March 30, at Siparuni Backdam, unlawfully killed his 50-year-old father, Jonathan John, a miner.
According to reports, at about 14:00h on March 30, the now dead man and two others, including Dintus, were imbibing at their camp when an argument ensued.
It is alleged that the man’s son picked up a shotgun and discharged a round in the direction of his father. The man was shot once to the stomach. He was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
After the incident, it is alleged that the suspect fled the scene but was later arrested by ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF). Dintus was remanded to prison until May 8, 2020.
