Sophia couple charged for narco-trafficking, firearm possession on bail

Fifty-one-year-old Godfrey Bacchus, a construction worker, and his reputed wife, 34-year-old Stacy Cort, who were allegedly busted with a quantity of marijuana, illegal firearms and ammunition during a Police raid in Sophia, Greater Georgetown were released on bail when they appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Magistrate Alicia George granted the renewed bail application made by Attorney Bernard DaSilva. The two were each granted $500,000 bail on the trafficking charge, while $200,000 bail was granted to Bacchus for illegal gun and ammunition possession.
It is alleged that on November 25, 2019, at North Sophia, the couple had in their possession 34 kilograms of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

The illegal weapons unearthed

It was further alleged that on the same day and location, Bacchus had in his possession 66 rounds of ammunition, one AK-47 and one pistol without being a licensed firearm holder.
A six-hour intelligence-led operation conducted by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters resulted in the arrest of the couple after the items were unearthed.
