Sophia man arrested for $3.5M heist at Pouderoyen

An ex-cop was on Sunday evening arrested for the robbery committed on a boat captain and a sales representative while they were dining at a restaurant at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
It was reported that Christopher Cornette of B Field Sophia is currently in custody in relation to the armed robbery and is assisting with investigations.
The 22-year-old is said to have been arrested on Sunday at his mother’s home. Police are nevertheless hunting for the second suspect.
On Saturday evening, Navindra Kooblall and Leon Dyal were robbed at the Hong Xiang restaurant, at Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Police said that between 20:15h and 20:30h, the gunmen had pounced upon the friends while they were dining.
They managed to escape with a whopping $3.5 million worth of gold jewellery, cash and other valuables.
Kooblall was reportedly relieved of six gold chains valued at $2,145,000, two gold rings valued at $220,000, one gold band valued at $400,000 along with an iPhone 11 Pro Max cell phone valued at $320,000, one Samsung A17 cell phone valued at $150,000 and US$1500.
His friend Dyal was relieved of one Samsung A50 cellular phone valued at $60,000 along with $155,000 in local currency and US$200.
Following the robbery, the two armed men made good their escape in their getaway car – a white 212 motor vehicle.
The entire ordeal was captured on the CCTV cameras.
