The sixth annual Courts/ Malta Pee-Wee under-11 Schools football kicked off Saturday with a flurry of goals in the 16 matches at the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground but it was newcomers Sophia who looked the most ominous team of the day.
Led by a helmet-trick from Ronaldo Wilson, Sophia trounced St Winifred’s 8-0 to sending a warning that they are out for a title bid. Wilson scored in the 3rd, 12th ,15th and 22nd in the one-sided onslaught. David Weeks (28th), Shem Howard (11th), Leonard King (38th) and Ovid Playter – Own Goal in the 9th minute added to the success.
Isiah Carter’s goal in the 14th minute helped St Agnes defeat Grove Primary 1-0 while Keilshon Humphrey hit a hat-trick to help Den Amstel to a resounding 3-0 win over Smiths Memorial.
Other wins came from St. Ambrose Primary who won 8-0 against Colaaco Primary, Stella Maris 2-0 against Mae’s Primary. Soesdyke Primary went down 6-0 to Tucville while defending champions St Angela’s drew with inaugural winners Marian Academy 0-0.
Redeemer Primary defeated North Georgetwon 2-0. Likewise, did Stephens Primary won 1-0 over Timerhi. St. Pius Primary stormed to a 6-0 victory over F.E. Pollard Primary.
Enterprise and West Ruimveldt played to goalless draw while Supply won against St Margaret’s after they were disqualified.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Co –Director of the organising committee Troy Mendonca stated, “we are very happy to continue our relationship with Courts to bring you this special event. It provides an opportunity for the children to play structured football while still being in school.”
Likewise, Clayton explained “would like to see a greater audience come out to support and we are proud of all participants and you must remain focus.”
Courts Marketing Director Pernell Cummings expressed, “we are winners here. This tournament has produced national players and hope it continues along that line.”
The tournament will continue this Saturday at the same venue.
