Sophia vendor slapped with robbery charge remanded
A fruit vendor who had previously been found guilty of armed robbery and given a six-month prison sentence was again before the court on Wednesday to face another armed robbery charge.
Arraigned before Chief Magistrate (ag) Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in that Georgetown magistrate’s court, 20-year-old Omar Anderson of Sophia, Greater Georgetown pleaded not guilty to a charge detailing that on October 22, 2023, in Kingston, Georgetown, he robbed Reynold Charles of an iPhone worth $120,000 and of $35,000 in cash.
When challenging bail for this accused, the Police prosecutor brought up his previous conviction on a related charge. Bail was denied, and Anderson was remanded to prison until November 15.
Anderson had been accused of robbing Joel Jardine of his possessions in April of this year. The particulars of that charge detailed that on March 31, at Lombard Street, Georgetown, while he was with other persons and was armed with a dangerous weapon, Anderson robbed Joel Jardine of a Samsung Galaxy mobile phone worth $32,000, a wallet worth $1,000, and $20,000 in cash
He had been sentenced by a magistrate to six months in prison for this offence. Anderson completed his prison term, and was discharged from jail in July. (G1)
