Guyana’s junior archers opened their campaign on Wednesday afternoon at the South American Youth Games in Panama, competing in the ranking round ahead of the knockout stages.
Competing in the Olympic recurve division, Brandon Cummings placed 16th out of 19 archers after recording a total of 511. He registered two Xs and four 10s, shooting 239 in the first half before improving to 272 in the second. Cummings finished 152 points behind the top-ranked archer, Argentina’s Gabriel Tonina.
In the compound division, Ravish Singh ended the ranking round in 15th position. Singh tallied one X and six 10s, posting a first-half score of 253 and a stronger second-half showing of 275 to finish with a total of 528. He was 160 points adrift of Colombia’s Jeronimo Agudelo, who topped the standings.
Both archers are being guided by coach Ryan McKinnon and are set to return to the range today for the knockout rounds, where they will look to improve on their rankings.
Meanwhile, attention was also on the boxing ring, where up to press time, Guyana’s Ken Harvey was scheduled to contest his Men’s 60kg quarter-final bout against Paraguay’s Edgar Miranda.
