South Rupununi gets road equipment to drive development, jobs

The South Rupununi District Council, Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) has expressed appreciation to President Dr Irfaan Ali for fulfilling a commitment made through the Natural Resources Ministry to support development in the district with the provision of a dump truck and a grader. In a statement posted on social media, the South Rupununi District Council on Friday said the equipment is a key step in addressing long-standing challenges affecting roads and transportation infrastructure across the South Rupununi. The council noted that the machinery will support ongoing infrastructure works and wider community development efforts, while improving access and mobility within the district. According to the statement, the investment also supports efforts toward greater self-reliance and sustainable development. It said the equipment will assist in strengthening road networks and improving service delivery in remote communities. The council further highlighted that the development positions South Rupununi Development Inc to bid for and execute contracts within the region. It said this will allow for greater use of local labour, skills development and retention of economic benefits within the district.
