Sparta, Leopold, “Gold is Money” among quarterfinalists
Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” Georgetown Championships…
Following two nights of excitement in the Group Stages, the Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” Georgetown Championships concluded the final round-robin match-day at the Berlin Tarmac with some exciting fixtures.
In the opening match, Alexander Village opposed Charlotte Street, and the former emerged victorious 5- nil.
The goals came compliments of Quincy Porter in the 12th and 14th minutes; while Shem Porter, Leon Yaw and Delon Williams scored in the 8th, 15th and 16th minutes respectively.
In game 2, Broad Street overcame John Street 3-1. Akeem San was able to score in the 4th minute for Broad Street, but Oswaldo Gill equalised in the 8th minute to level the scores.
San, however, returned in the 18th minute to score a Guinness Goal and give his side the win.
In game 3, Future Stars won via walkover against Albouystown ‘A’. Organisers have decided to suspend the Albouystown side for one year.
Heading into the fourth match, Sophia shocked Rising Stars by inflicting on them a 4-1 defeat. The goals came via Dwayne Lowe and Gerald Grittens in the 18th and 20th minutes, while Ray Smith’s goal in the 5th minute turned out to be an early consolation goal.
In game 5, Tiger Bay defeated Leopold Street 3-1. Although Okeene Fraser scored in the 8th minute, Tiger Bay returned the compliment with James Meredith goals in the 15th and 18th (GG) minutes.
And in the other fixture, Michael Pedro’s lone goal propelled Gold is Money to a defeat of LA Ballers.
In game 7, Back Circle edged North East La Penitence 2-1. The scorers for Back Circle were Adrian Aaron and Jermaine Beckles, who scored in the 5th and 14th minutes despite Keifer Grant’s consolation goal.
The final game of the night saw Albouystown ‘B’ upsetting the in-form Sparta Boss 1-0, thanks to the efforts of Melvorn Ross in the 6th minute.
The teams that advanced to the quarterfinals are Broad Street, Leopold Street, Albouystown ‘B’, Back Circle, Sparta Boss, Sophia, Gold is Money, and Tiger Bay.
