The Speaker of the National Assembly, Manzoor Nadir, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) for a second time.
Speaking with Guyana Times, Nadir confirmed that a test was conducted on Tuesday, and the results have indicated a positive reading. He noted that other relatives also tested positive.
Nadir explained that he had been feeling unwell since Sunday, and opted to appear virtually the following day for the Parliamentary session. After monitoring his condition and noticing that it was not improving, he decided to get tested.
“I wasn’t feeling well since Sunday; I was having headache and fever. So, I decided to stay at home and do the session from home…After my condition wasn’t improving, I got tested,” the House Speaker said.
He is currently following an isolation period of 14 days.
However, the Speaker is urging anyone who is experiencing symptoms to get tested as early as possible.
“I think a lot of people should get tested as soon as they detect any symptom or so,” Nadir told this publication.
In early September, Nadir had tested positive for COVID-19, but was asymptomatic. Due to this, he presided over the 2020 National Budget presentation virtually. Later that month, 14 parliamentary employees also tested positive for the virus out of 126 that were tested. (G12)
