SQ unveiled as official uniform supplier of Rawle Toney 3×3 Classic

…MVP Sports on board, contributes prize for 3 points’ shootout at launch

It’s that time of the year again, and SQ, formerly known as SQUADRA, has been announced as the official uniform supplier for the Rawle Toney 3X3 Classic, set for February 19–20, 2022, while MVP Sports have now come on board as sponsors of the event.
This and more were unveiled at the MVP Sports Complex at the Giftland Mall. Delivering the feature address was Managing Director of MVP Sports, Ian Ramdeo, who said, “We are happy to be here and supporting sports in another format. A few weeks ago, it was football, but now it’s basketball, and we definitely will continue to do that for sports in general in Guyana.

“It’s actually very heartening for me to see our athletes get a chance to get back out after a very long time of little competition. We are very happy to be a part of this tournament with Mr Toney, but not only in this year, but as a partnership in the future.”

Ramdeo noted that the MVP Sports brand is also on board as a sponsor, and they have also decided to throw in a little extra. There will be a 3-point shootout on Friday, Ramdeo noted. He related that MVP Sports has contributed the prize for that competition, which is the current “Steph Curry” shoes and a cash prize as well.
Speaking as well was founder of the tournament, Rawle Toney, who noted that the second edition of the tournament will be the first in over two years, due to the ongoing pandemic. Toney noted that while registration is free, teams must register on the FIBA 3×3 website, as it is a FIBA-endorsed game and this would allow for players and Guyana to gain the much need points by FIBA for the 3×3 format. This, in turn, would allow Guyana to be in good standing in regard to qualification for a number of major events, and it would determine if Guyana would be in the main draw of the qualification rounds, and even go to the country ranking.
“Each of the participating sixteen teams will be given a uniform, compliments of SQ, and I want to say a special thanks to Colin Baker, who is an executive and part owner of SQ,” Toney posited.
The Rawle Toney 3X3 Classic will be launched at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall this Friday. Several teams in the Caribbean and North America have shown interest in the lucrative tournament.
Sixteen teams will be vying for a winner’s purse of $600,000. In 2019, Pitbulls 3.0, behind Ryan Stephney, Jermaine Slatter, Ryan Gullen and Travis Belgrave, edged Team Smooth 22-12 in the finals to walk away with Gy$300,000 and the Rawle Toney 3X3 Basketball Classic Trophy.
The tournament has received sponsorship from Eco Green Services; Junior Sammy Guyana Inc; Marlon Jacobs, aka Freedom Boss; Kabisa Energy Drink; Guyana Breweries Incorporated under its Mackeson Brand; and MVP Sports among others.
