Squash players battle for crown in Lucozade tourney

The Guyana Squash Association (GSA) commenced its 2017 Ansa Mc Al/Lucozade Handicap Tournament at the Georgetown Club on Wednesday night with a number of sizzling matches.

Played in two classes; Open and Category A, some 40 participating players began their quest to capture the vacated Open title left by defending champ Deje Dias who is currently out of the country. Ryan Rahaman +7 beat Talia Fiedtkou +13 two sets (15 – 9, 15 – 10) in the Open category.

Category A saw encounters between; Lucas Jonas 0 beat Noah Rahaman +11 (15 – 11, 15 – 12), defending champ Abosaide Cadogan 0 beating Nicholas Verwey +7 (15 – 13, 15 – 11), Ethan Jonas -2 getting the better of Grant Fernandes +13 (15 – 13, 15 – 13).

Kirsten Gomes 0 defeating Osmond Mack +10 (15 – 13, 15 – 10), Louis Da Silva + 7 trumping Brenno Da Silva +12 (15 – 5, 15 – 5) and Demetrius De Abreu -2 getting one over on Mohryan Baksh +5 (15 – 14, 7 – 15, 15 – 11), to cap off the set matches played thus far.

All matches are best of three and action starts each evening from 18:00 pm. The finals of all the categories are set for November 19 starting at 11:00 hrs.
