Sri Lanka stun West Indies U-19s in 1-wicket thriller
Led by a fighting knock from Sonal Dinusha, Sri Lanka defeated West Indies Under-19s by one wicket and 59 balls to spare in the third youth One-Day International (ODI) in the Tri-nation series in Antigua.
Chasing 138 for victory, Sri Lanka were reduced to 101-9, but the final pair held their nerve to complete a nail-biting win. Dinusha made an unbeaten 46 to ensure Sri Lanka steal victory at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
Ahan Wickramasinghe made 13 while Amshi de Silva made an unbeaten 10. For West Indies Under-19s, Ramon Simmons took 3-31 in eight overs while Nyeem Young and Jayden Searles took two wickets each.
Earlier, West Indies laboured their way to 137-9 in their allotted 50 overs, with Guyana’s Kevlon Anderson top-scoring with 43 from 69 balls, batting at number five. The West Indies boys lost some quick wickets with a bit of rain intervening.
After Anderson’s top-score, Jayden Seals scored 23 and Guyana’s Ashmead Nedd hit an unbeaten 21. Kavindu Nadeeshan took 4-20 for the visitors while Amshi de Silva bagged 3-18.
West Indies will play England on Thursday, December 12 from 09:00h local time.
