
The 19th edition of the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) KFC National School Basketball Festival continued on Monday and Tuesday at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, with several schools recording important wins across the Girls’, Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18 divisions.
The competition, which continues throughout the week at the same venue, saw St Stanislaus College, The Bishop’s High, President’s College (PC), Queen’s College (QC), Berbice High, Tutorial Academy and Kwakwani among the teams securing victories.
On Tuesday, St Stanislaus College recorded wins in both the Under-14 and Under-18 categories. In the Under-14 division, Saints defeated Christ Church 22-12, led by Nathan Baptiste, who scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Dayne Roberts added four points and four steals, while Timothy Springer scored five points for Christ Church.
In the under-18 division, St Stanislaus College also defeated Brickdam 35-9. Hartley Price led the way with 13 points and three rebounds, while Demitri Crandon and Rolson Pollard each added eight points. Akili Layne had five points and three rebounds for Brickdam.
The Bishop’s High also enjoyed a strong day on Tuesday. In the Under-14 division, Bishops’ defeated North Georgetown Secondary 24-5, with Ethan Henry producing 12 points and 14 rebounds. Nkosi Griffith added seven points and eight rebounds.
Bishops later secured a 33-21 win over Tutorial Academy in the Under-18 division. Kemol Pickering scored 13 points with three rebounds, while Logan Simpson added 10 points. For Tutorial, Orin Williams finished with six points and 11 rebounds.

PC produced one of the wider margins of victory in the Under-18 division, defeating St Joseph High 48-6. Terron Mohabir led PC with 11 points, while Romarion Wolfe added 10 and Omarie Grandison contributed eight.
New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary (NAMS) edged Government Technical Institute (GTI) 34-31 in another Under-18 contest. Samuel Welcome led NAMS with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Tyrese added nine points and four rebounds. GTI’s Sean Duncan had 17 points, six rebounds and three steals.
In the Under-14 division, Good Hope Secondary defeated Marian Academy 28-12. Christopher Claxton had 10 points and seven rebounds, while Jafer Matthews also scored 10 points and collected four rebounds. Francis Thomas scored six points with three rebounds for Marian.
QC also recorded a 24-4 win over PC in the Under-14 division. Yohan Langevine led QC with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Michael Humphrey added eight points and nine rebounds.

Earlier in the week on Monday, the girls’ division saw Tutorial Academy defeat QC 18-7. Jada Alexander recorded six points, seven rebounds and three steals, while Venicia Myers added six points, six rebounds and five steals. Ricielle Fowler scored all seven points for QC and also grabbed seven rebounds.
JC Chandisingh also picked up a girls’ division win, defeating Marian Academy 11-6. Jenniah Archer scored seven points and grabbed five rebounds, while Jada Minty added five rebounds for JC Chandisingh.
In the under-16 division, St Rose’s High defeated Marian Academy 43-12. Nathan Williams led St Rose’s with 18 points and five rebounds, while Daniel Cox added nine points and four steals.
St Stanislaus College survived a close contest against QC, winning 24-22. Omarie White led Saints with 14 points and nine rebounds, while Quasie Newton added six points. Antoine Liverpool scored 12 points for QC, while Demitri Singh added six.
Berbice High defeated Hururu 34-18, led by Avion Kesney, who scored 20 points and grabbed four rebounds. Shimron Jaffar added seven points, while Carlson Mattheson had five points and eight rebounds. Timothy Williams led Hururu with eight points and seven rebounds.
Kwakwani also secured a narrow 27-25 win over Line Path. Damian Budburg led Kwakwani with 10 points and four steals, while Theriel Torres added five points and four rebounds. Joel Sukhram led Line Path with 11 points and seven rebounds, while Sanjay Jainarine added eight points.
