The sponsorship support was officially announced during a presentation at the conference room of Sterling Products Limited at Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD), as organisers prepare for another edition of the popular youth football competition.
According to Petra Organisation Secretary Jacklyn Boodie, more than 400 students will benefit from this year’s tournament, which will feature 32 teams representing seven of Guyana’s 10 administrative regions.
“We are pleased to announce that coming Saturday, over 400 students would benefit from your invaluable support through sponsorship. This year, we are pleased to announce that seven out of 10 administrative regions would participate, totalling 32 teams,” Boodie said.
She also thanked Sterling Products Limited for coming on board and supporting the development of primary school football.
The official opening ceremony and preliminary matches are scheduled to begin at 10:00h on Saturday, with the Ministry of Education ground serving as the venue for the opening-day activities.
The fixtures are expected to be released ahead of Thursday afternoon’s team briefing and ball distribution exercise, also scheduled for the Ministry of Education ground.
Sterling Products Limited Marketing Manager Dellon Lynch said the company was proud to continue supporting an initiative that has grown in reach and impact over the years.
“You guys are on your way to ensuring that Pee-Wee on the 11 touches each and every region of the country,” Lynch said, while expressing hope that schools from more remote areas, including Lethem and other locations, would eventually become part of the competition.
Lynch also highlighted the broader benefits of participation, noting that students involved in sporting activities have shown improvements both on the field and in the classroom.
“I’ve noticed over the years that the students who take part in these events have been excelling and improving their skills,” he said. “I’m sure that this sports event is also transitioning into their classroom performance because extracurricular activities also improve your thinking, your focus, and all these things.”
He reaffirmed Sterling Products Limited’s commitment to initiatives that contribute to the development of young people through sport.
With 32 teams set to compete across seven administrative regions, the 13th edition of the Pee-Wee Schools Football Tournament promises another strong showing of primary school football talent from across Guyana.
