‘Stripper’ charged for attempting to snatch purse

A man of unsound mind who admitted to being a stripper at a South Road, Georgetown hotel was on Monday brought before city Magistrate Judy Latchman charged for attempting to snatch a woman’s purse.
Stephen Henry, of Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD), denied that on January 26, 2018 at Hunter Street, Georgetown, he attempted to snatch a purse valued $10,000, property of Lemanka Douglas.
According to Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore, the Virtual Complainant (VC) was sitting at a car wash waiting for her car to be cleaned when she felt the accused pulling at her bag.
She raised an alarm and he attempted to escape, but was subdued by public-spirited persons.
Henry’s mother, however, told the court that her son was of unsound mind and provided documents to Magistrate Latchman confirming this.
As such, Magistrate Latchman ordered that the defendant be evaluated at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
He was placed on $70,000 bail and was expected to return to court on February 19, 2018.
