The Education Ministry has launched an investigation into an incident that occurred on Thursday at Tuschen Secondary School, East Bank Essequibo, which left two students injured.
The injured boys were transported to De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where they received medical attention and were later discharged.
Following the incident, the student involved has been expelled from the school and taken into Police custody. A teacher who is also alleged to be connected to the matter has been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of a Police investigation.
Education Minister Sonia Parag visited the injured students and their families at the hospital on Thursday. The Regional Health Officer, Regional Education Officer, and the school’s headteacher were also present to coordinate the response.
The Child Care and Protection Agency (CC&PA) under the Human Services and Social Security Ministry has been informed to ensure that the welfare of all individuals involved is addressed.
The Education Ministry said it remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of students and staff and will continue to follow established procedures to maintain a secure school environment.
