Super 16 final slated for Providence

– $2M for champs, $1M for runner-up

The Guyana Football Federation (GFF) has partnered with Top Brandz Distributors through their Corona Beer brand to launch the GFF/Corona Super 16 Year-end Classic knockout football competition.
The competition which will feature 10 Elite clubs, five select teams and an Indigenous All-Stars side will begin on December 15 with the first round being played country wide at venues in Linden, West Coast Demerara, Georgetown and the East Coast of Demerara. The final is slated for the National Stadium, Providence on January 1 (New Year’s Day).
At the launch on Saturday at the GFF’s Secretariat, President Wayne Forde maintained that “the classic is billed to be an exciting, exhilarating and high quality tournament.”

He revealed that in the past the GFF had indicated their intention of hosting such a tournament; however he pointed out that this tournament (Super 16) is an indication of where the GFF is going and further pointed out that by next year each Member Association will have playoffs to qualify for the year end championship which will give everyone country wide a chance to be a part of the competition.
Moving ahead Forde explained that he along with the GFF is excited about the relationship they have brokered with Top Brandz hinting “it is one that I think will go on for many years.”
Meanwhile Top Brandz Distributors Marketing Representative, Marvin Wray maintained that while the company has been in existence over ten years, each year as they grow they seek to give back to sport in Guyana. Wray explained that football on the January 1is a Guyanese tradition and part of the country’s culture; “something that should be carried on.”
The Top Brandz Marketing representative also described the collaboration with the GFF as “the beginning of a beautiful partnership.”
In a stunning announcement, Wray revealed that his company along with other sponsors will be bringing Dancehall Megastar Popcaan to perform at a concert after the grand finale at Providence on January 1.
“We will be bringing a quality artist to cap off a high quality tournament,” Wray declared.
The 16 teams are Winners Connection, Camptown FC, Milerock FC, Cougars FC, Pouderoyen FC, GDF, Den Amstel, Indigenous All-Stars, Western Tigers, Grove Hi-Tech, Fruta Conquerors, Ann’s Grove, Victoria Kings, Police FC, Buxton United and New Amsterdam United.
They will be vying for the first place prize of $2 Million while the runners up will pocket $1 Million, third place $500,000 and fourth place $250,000.
The opening fixtures will feature Winners Connection FC vs Camptown FC and Milerock FC vs Cougars FC on December 15 at the McKenzie Sports Club in Linden.
