Surinamese authorities have reportedly arrested nine Guyanese fishermen who were allegedly fishing illegally in their waters.
Based on information received, the Surinamese Coast Guard intercepted two fishing vessels at the mouth of the Saramacca River.
Law enforcement officials in that country have revealed that the boats were fishing illegally and as such, all the crew members were arrested and the boats seized.
The fishermen were on their way to Boskamp to unload the fish which they had caught over the time on the waters.
Suriname along with Guyana closed their borders in an effort to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
However, persons are unable to work and provide for their families as such, they usually take the risk of plying their trade to provide for their family.
