A Surinamese businessman who is currently visiting Guyana was on Thursday evening robbed of his valuables after his car was broken into while parked in the vicinity of Umana Yana, Georgetown.
The incident occurred sometime between 21:00h and 23:00h.
Reports are that the businessman, 53-year-old Rakeesh Kalloe of Paramaribo, came to Guyana in the company of another Surinamese businessman, to transact business. At the time, they were using a motor vehicle owned and driven by Kalloe.
On the day in question, the businessman parked the vehicle on High Street in the vicinity of Umana Yana after which he and his friend went into the Pegasus Hotel where they had dinner.
Upon returning to the vehicle at about 23:00h, they observed that the rear windshield was broken. Further checks were made, and it was discovered that several articles were missing.
Police said the man was robbed of one brown leather bag which contained one vaccination paper, one black wallet, one entrance visa, one silver grey Lenovo laptop valued at €800, and one bottle of Hennessey whiskey.
A report was made to the Police, and an investigation was launched.
