The suspect in Sunday’s stabbing incident which left a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Lieutenant dead has turned himself in to Police custody.

Guyana Times was told that shortly after 13:00h the suspect, who goes by the alias “Sun”, turned up at the Whim Police Station accompanied by his lawyer, Chandra Sohan.
Police have been searching for the suspect for the murder of Lieutenant Mark Begot, 26, of Lot 21 Philippi Village, Corentyne, Berbice.
The suspect’s Attorney told this publication that he has advised his client not to give any statement to investigators.
On December 30, 2018, “Sun” and Lieutenant Begot, along with another man, were imbibing at a bar in the village when an argument broke out over payment for a Guinness.
The argument escalated into a fight with bottles being used as missiles to throw at each other.
The suspect reportedly armed himself with a knife and allegedly stabbed Begot. The injured soldier was rushed to the Port Mourant Hospital.
Begot was subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Hospital and died while receiving medical treatment.
Police are continuing their investigations.
