Taxi driver charged with assault

A taxi driver attached to the Green Ice taxi service was on Monday granted bail for allegedly assaulting his colleague.

Andrew Gadd, 45, pleaded not guilty to the charge when Magistrate Judy Latchman read it to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

It is alleged that on May 26, 2017 at North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, Gadd maliciously assaulted Orin David so as to cause actual bodily harm.

He also pleaded not guilty to using abusive behaviour on May 23, 2017.

The defendant told the court that the Virtual Complainant (VC) was lying and noted that he did not assault him.

However, the prosecution’s facts revealed that on the day in question, the defendant took a knife and used it to hit the VC to his forehead, which caused him to bleed. He was granted bail in the sum of $20,000 for the abusive behaviour charge and in the sum of $100,000 for the assault charge.

The defendant is scheduled to return to court on June 19, 2017.
