Taxi driver killed in Sunday morning accident at Soesdyke

A father of four has become the latest road fatality after he reportedly lost control of his car in the vicinity of Patsy’s food court, Linden-Soesdyke Highway junction in the wee hours of Sunday.
The dead man has been identified as 47-year-old Lester Williams of Hill Foot, Linden-Soesdyke Highway, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Based on reports received, the taxi driver was heading home when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle, crashed into the median, then into a koker and finally toppled several times before hitting a parked truck.
He was reportedly pinned under the car and died on the spot. His body was later removed and taken to the Lyken Funeral Home. At the home of the dead man hours after the accident, family members had gathered and were making preparations for his wake.

One of his brothers, M Williams explained that he was at home when he received a telephone call about the accident. He said that without hesitation, he drove to the scene only to find his brother’s Toyota Allion motor car with its four wheels in the air. He related that persons were trying to pull him from the wreckage, but were unsuccessful.
Williams’s lifeless body was eventually retrieved after a tow truck arrived at the scene and righted the upturned car. By then, the grieving brother said, the undertakers had arrived and they pulled the body from the car.
Williams’s brother, who was trying to hold his emotions in check, told Guyana Times that he last saw his sibling alive on Saturday evening about 19:00h.
“He was home all day, but at about 7 o’clock, he left home and say he going and make two fast trip… that was the last time I saw him alive … the next time I saw him is when they pulled his body from under the car,” the brother stated.
The devastated man said that based on information received, usually, when his brother was about to leave the taxi park, he would drive around and tell everyone he was heading home.
“Is drive he de driving telling everyone he was heading home when the accident occurred… I could not say if he was under the influence of alcohol…,” he said.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness told this publication that Williams was speeding and the car ended up in a hole on the roadway which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The eyewitness stated that the car then toppled and slammed into the parked truck.
The dead man was described as a family person who also had a clean heart.
He leaves to mourn his four children, siblings, and friends. The Police are currently investigating the fatal accident.
