A taxi driver was on Tuesday evening killed during a robbery at Cemetery Road, Mocha Arcadia, East Bank Demerara (EBD). The dead man has been identified as Owen (only name given) of the said village.
Based on reports received, the father of three was hired by two passengers to take them to an address in the village.
However, as they approached Cemetery Road, the passengers whipped out a gun and knife and relieved the taxi driver of his valuables, including his cash and mobile phone.
The two men then exited the motorcar bearing registration number PRR 3313 and made their way out of the village.
The driver reportedly raised an alarm and went in pursuit of the men, but in retaliation, the bandits turned around and discharged a round at Owen, thus, hitting him to the head.
In addition, it is believed that the taxi driver was also stabbed.
Because of the injuries to the head, he died on the spot. The Police were summoned to the area where they cordoned off to conduct their preliminary investigations. No arrests were made as Police continue their probe.
