The closing ceremony of the Mahdia Teach Them Young – Learn to Swim Programme was held on Friday

The programme stemmed from a commitment made by Minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Steve Jacobs, and was implemented through a collaborative effort involving the Ministry, the National Sports Commission, and the Regional Democratic Council of Region Eight.
Throughout the five-day programme, students from Mahdia Secondary School, Mahdia Primary School, Campbelltown Primary School, Princeville Primary School, Micobie Primary School, and Micobie Secondary School participated in lessons designed to develop their swimming abilities, build confidence, and promote water safety.
This initiative represents an important investment in the safety, wellbeing, and development of our young people, equipping them with a valuable life skill while encouraging greater participation in sports and physical activities.
Remarks at the closing ceremony were delivered by Regional Chairperson Ms Tarcellia John; Regional Vice Chairperson Mrs Samantha John; Head Coach of the National Swimming Programme Mr Paul Mahaica; and Director of Sports Mr Steve Ninvalle, who joined virtually.
The Regional Democratic Council of Region Eight said it recognises the importance of initiatives such as these in creating opportunities for our children to learn, grow, and develop essential life skills.
The entity extended appreciation to the coaches, instructors, schools, organisers, and partners whose contributions helped make the programme possible.
