Teen arrested after ganja, cocaine bust at Charity Market

An 18-year-old male is in Police custody following the discovery of cannabis and cocaine during an operation at the Charity Old Market, Essequibo Coast, on Tuesday. Police said the operation was carried out at about 11:00h on Tuesday, after ranks acted on information received. During the exercise, officers observed the unemployed resident of Charity Village in the vicinity.

The cocaine that were found by the Police

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly attempted to evade Police after noticing their presence, during which he reportedly threw a black bag into nearby bushes. Ranks pursued and apprehended him shortly after. The bag was subsequently retrieved and searched in the suspect’s presence. Police reported that it contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with an off-white substance believed to be cocaine.
The man was arrested and escorted to the Charity Police Station, where the narcotics were weighed. Police said the cannabis amounted to 64.6 grams, while the cocaine weighed 30 grams. Both substances were lodged as evidence.
He remains in custody pending charges.
