A 12-year-old Friendship Secondary School student is battling for his life in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck by a motorcyclist.
According to reports, Jonathan Ashby of Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was standing on the roadway near his school in the company of his friends at approximately 11:30h on Friday, when he was struck by a male biker.
The students raised an alarm and the injured child was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre (DDC); however, because of the extent of his injuries, he was transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital for emergency medical attention.
Up to press time, Ashby was in an unconscious state in the ICU. The rider of the motorcycle reportedly told Police that the child was pushed into his path by his fellow students. Police have since launched an investigation.
