Home News Teen jailed for illegal ammo possession
A 19-year-old miner was on Tuesday brought before the court on a charge of illegal possession of ammunition. The unrepresented teenager, Steven King, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly where he admitted to the charge which detailed that on May 5, 2019, at 35 Miles Backdam, Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni), he had in his possession .32 calibre ammunition without being a licensed firearm holder.
Police Prosecutor Sanj Singh informed the court that on May 5, at about 12:30h, ranks of the Guyana Police Force were acting on a report of simple larceny committed. However, based on information received, they were able to intercept the defendant and a search was conducted on his person. The ammunition was found in King’s bag in a transparent container. The teen later admitted ownership of the illegal item, the prosecution’s case stated.
Magistrate Daly sentenced the teen to two years’ imprisonment.
