A 16-year-old motorcyclist died on Wednesday afternoon after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a lamp pole along Eccles Access Road, also known as Dumpsite Road, East Bank, Demerara.
Dead is Vitor Leca-De Alencar of Green Acres, East Bank, Demerara.
According to Police, the accident occurred at about 16:00h and involved motorcycle 5461, which was being driven by Alencar.
Initial investigations revealed that the motorcycle was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of Eccles Access Road at a reportedly fast rate of speed when the rider lost control while negotiating a right bend.
The motorcycle subsequently collided with a lamp pole situated on the median separating the two carriageways.
Alencar fell onto the roadway and sustained injuries to his head and other parts of his body.
Emergency medical technicians were summoned to the scene, where a doctor examined the teenager and pronounced him dead.
His body was later taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
