Teen nabbed with illegal gun remanded to prison

An 18-year-old was on Friday remanded to prison after he was charged with possession of a 12-gauge shotgun, which the Police say was found in a salt bag.
Joshua Abel Persaud, of Suddie Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), was arraigned before Magistrate Esther Sam at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.

The shotgun that was seized by the Police

The charge stated that on January 7, at Suddie Housing Scheme, Essequibo Coast, the defendant had in his possession a shotgun without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Persaud pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him.
Bail was objected to by the Prosecutor and the defendant was remanded to prison.
The case has been adjourned to January 26, 2024.
Police in Regional Division Number Two on January 7, 2024 , about 21:30h, searched the home of the teen labourer after receiving information that he had arms and ammunition.
Two cellphones were found that did not belong to him.
He told investigators that the phones were given to him by someone and the same person also gave him a shotgun to keep.
He then accompanied Police ranks and pointed out a salt bag. The bag was opened in his presence, and a 12-gauge shotgun was found with the serial number filed off. (G1)
