The strange evolution of Dr Hinds

Dear Editor,
Within a matter of weeks, Dr. Hinds has gone from the appearance of an impartial observer to now openly advocating breaking the laws of Guyana; from “letting the process work its way through the courts” to now “scrapping the ballot boxes and installing Mr. Granger as President.
What could account for this strange evolution of Dr. Hinds?
From election date to now, Dr. Hinds cannot not bring himself to admit that which not some, or even a few, but ALL of the election observers have asserted: that the tabulation of votes by Mr. Mingo was fraudulent.
While some have blamed many in the international community of being biased in favour of the Opposition, it strains credulity to believe that ALL in the international community — including our Caribbean brothers and sisters, of whom most are black — are in on this conspiracy. Even Dr. Hinds cannot believe this.
Unable to accept the reality of the outcome, Dr. Hinds seeks refuge in his usual “both sides are guilty of rigging” statement. Perhaps he is correct, but to my knowledge, to date, neither Dr. Hinds, nor anyone else has presented evidence that supports this assertion, as it pertains to the election of March 2nd, 2020.
If Dr. Hinds has this evidence, I challenge him to present it for the benefit of the Guyanese people and for the world to see. I think he owes it to the Guyanese people. Without presenting any shred of evidence, or without any place to hide, Dr. Hinds has simply abandoned any pretense at open-mindedness and has laid bare his true feelings.
Here is Dr. Hinds in his own words: “Count your votes and declare your winner: I will see you in 2025 shouting for democracy again”
“I am not joining the rhetoric that reduces the current impasse before us to “rigging”: I know better”
“Scrap the election and install an interim government with David Granger as President.”
While Dr. Hinds is entitled to his opinion, here are a few questions Hinds and his conscience must grapple with: Why hold elections at all? why not simply assert a winner? Why make this call now? Why shout for democracy in 2025? What about democracy now? Couldn’t this call have been made before spending millions of dollars on an election? If you truly believe in shared governance, why didn’t you suggest this to your coalition partners after they won in 2015. In fact, didn’t you remind us through your many articles that you were campaigning for the coalition?
I assumed you believed in elections then. what has changed your mind? Aren’t you an advocate for the sanctity and integrity of GECOM? Where in the GECOM charter can you find scrapping ballot boxes as a solution?
You see, Editor, this is the kind of rank hypocrisy that has kept our country from moving forward. The game is okay once my side is winning; but when the tables are turned, then we should end the game and declare me the winner. Something is rotten in the minds of people who subscribe to this kind of thinking.

Sincerely,
Courtney Lane
