Dear Editor,
The choice in the upcoming Mayoral elections in the Georgetown Municipality is a very simple one. Re-elect the current Mayor and have more of the same for the next year: that is the awarding of contracts to clean the cemetery and other parts of Georgetown without a bidding process; monthly luxury travels to exotic destinations around the world without any benefits being accrued by the city; the imposition of more draconian taxation on the citizens, such as the parking meter deal; the wanton deprivation of vendors from making an honest living; the wasteful spending of the citizens’ money on failed and unnecessary projects, such as the presidential park; the clear preference to control rather than consult with citizens; the late payment of salaries to city workers each month, which is clear disrespect to the working class; more flea markets like the one that was put in place by the Mayor and Town Clerk on Regent Street a few months ago and which was a also colossal let down. Indeed an endless list of failures will continue.
Or Sherod Duncan could be chosen whose mantra is to create and stimulate transparency, accountability and inclusive decision-making at City Hall.
Duncan is young, focused, and confident; he believes in transparency, has integrity, is inspired, has a passion, and is innovative.
That is the breath of fresh air that Georgetown needs.
Sincerely,
Shanta Singh
