Thwarted supermarket robbery: Killed bandit was wanted by Police for shooting incident

The 24-year-old man who was shot and killed on Wednesday night during an attempted armed robbery at a supermarket on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, was wanted by Police in connection with a firearm-related offence.
Dead is Nia Emmanuel, an unemployed resident of Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown.

According to Police, the incident occurred at about 20:40h at the People’s Choice Supermarket when three men entered the business premises. Investigators said one of the suspects was armed with a handgun and, along with the others, confronted two unarmed security guards, ordering them to lie on the ground.
During the robbery attempt, a Police rank who was on mobile patrol reportedly observed the incident and approached the suspects.
Police said the armed suspect discharged a round in the direction of the officer, who responded by firing his service weapon. The suspects then fled the supermarket in different directions.
The armed suspect was later found in a nearby drain along Mandela Avenue with gunshot injuries. He was subsequently examined by a doctor and pronounced dead.
In an update issued on Thursday, investigators disclosed that he was wanted in connection with an alleged discharging of a loaded firearm with intent to cause harm that occurred on November 3, 2025.
Police recovered a .38 revolver at the scene containing three live rounds and one spent shell. Three 9mm spent shells were also found and lodged as evidence pending further examination.
The body was escorted to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Police said efforts are continuing to locate the two other suspects who escaped following the incident.
Investigations remain ongoing.
