Timehri truck driver nabbed with gun, ammo in Reg 7

A 32-year-old driver from Timehri North, East Bank Demerara (EBD), was taken into custody on Saturday after being found in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition at Sherima, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni). Based on reports received, the suspect, who was driving a motor lorry, was intercepted by police ranks during an operation at Sherima and requested to conduct a search of the vehicle.

At the time, there was one other occupant, a 20-year-old Venezuelan national. However, during the search, a 9mm Taurus pistol, along with three matching live rounds of ammunition, was found hidden in a storage compartment of the motor lorry. As a result, the driver was arrested and taken to the Sherima Police Station, where he was placed in custody. The firearm and ammunition were lodged as investigations continue.
