Titans Table Tennis Gold Cup slated for October 28-30

The second edition of the Titans Table Tennis Gold Cup serves off on October 28 and will be played over three days at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The categories that are set to be contested are under 9, Under 11, 13, 15 and 18 boys and girls, Under 21 Open, B Class Open, and Over 40 and 50 Open.

Top performers will be rewarded, as $60,000 will be awarded to first place in the male senior singles category, $50,000 for the female and $40,000 in the veterans category.

According to club president and former National player Dwain Dick, the aim of the tournament is to raise awareness for the sport and provide marketing opportunities for corporate companies.

Dick explained, “this is the second edition of the tournament, the whole general idea is to see if we can replicate it into other sister countries, maybe firstly Jamaica then Trinidad and Tobago”.

The club president added “what we are doing is trying to ask the corporate community who are looking to expand in the region to support us, we will give them visibility; We want it to grow, and probably become developmental, where children can look forward to these tournaments”.

Dick revealed that he is “expecting a contingent from Jamaica and a contingent from Trinidad and several of the local clubs.”

Last year the tournament had sponsors such as Banks DIH Limited, P & P Insurance Brokers, Guyson’s Engineering, Bakewell, Trophy Stall, Mike’s Copy Center, Hurricane Enterprises, Sambora Communications Incorporation Vegetable Gardens Inc., La Pink Beauty Salon and Make-up Studio, Netsurf Telecommunications, BAC Courier, Cornbread Hangout Bar and Fish Shop, The Business School and Westfield Preparatory School.

The table tennis club has been in existence for five years and has produced Caribbean medalist such as Thuraia Thomas, Isaiah Layne and the Wong brothers (Miguel and Colin).
