Horse-racing enthusiasts will be treated to high-quality racing on Sunday, July 31 when top horses assemble for the Port Mourant Emancipation meet. For the first time in history, 24 new entries, including horses from Trinidad and Tobago, Jamaica, the United States of America and Suriname will battle for top honours at the same venue, the Port Mourant Turf Club.
Eight races are carded for July 31 and the feature event, which is open to all horses, will run at eight furlongs and the winner’s purse is $1,000,000. The second prize is $500,000 while the third-place prize is $100,000. The lucrative event is expected to start 12:00h sharp. The one-day horse race meeting will start with the L open race, which will run at a distance of six furlongs and the first-place cash prize is $160,000 and the second prize is $80,000.
The second race carded for the day will be the Guyana- and West Indies-bred two-year-old horses’. That eight- furlong race will see the top horse bag $500,000 while the second-place horse will win $250,000. The horse that finishes third will bag $125,000. Race three will be the J Class race, and the stakes are also high in that eight-furlong race. The top horse will bag $200,000.
Race four will see the J3 maiden (all first-time starters) running at six furlongs and $200,000 will be the top prize. In the H Class race, running at six furlongs, the top horse will bag $400,000. Race 6 will be the F Class race, running at 6.5 furlongs and the top prize is $500,000. In the Guyana and West Indies-bred two-year-olds race, running at five furlongs, $400,000 will be the top prize. Entries will be closed on July 25 and the races will run under updated classification.
