Several of the country’s futsal teams continued to make their mark in the inaugural Magnum ‘Mash Cup’ Futsal tournament being held at the National Gymnasium.
Tuesday’s second night of action saw the usual suspects etch their names on the score sheet paving the way for some battling victories.
Linden unit Swag Entertainment dished out a 5-1 route on Albouystown ‘A’ led by Shane Luckie’s hat-trick via gaols in the 4th, 5th and 17th; support came from Romel Matthews (12th) and Colwyn Drakes (16th) while Malachi Nelson (19th) was the lone marksman for the opposition.
Showstoppers edged Sophia in a seven goal thriller. Trayon Bobb’s brace was more impacting than Sophia’s Akeem Jaikissoon double. Bobb netted in the 6th and 10th while Jaikissoon converted in the 12th and 19th but West Demerara Showstoppers had support from Dexroy Adams (2nd) and Delon Lanferman (11th) which made the difference since only Dwayne Lowe offered any other sparks of glory for Sophia with a 7th minute conversion.
Meanwhile, the match of the night between Linden’s NK Ballers and Leopold Street was too tight to decide a winner, ending 2-2. Ballers early surge was led by veteran Rawle ‘Boney Man’ Gittens with goals in the 4th and 5th. His efforts were undone by equalisers from Okeene Fraser (10th) and Omallo Williams (15th).
In another closely fought match, Stephon McLean 14th minute goal made the difference for Back Circle in their clash with MBK All-stars while Albouystown ‘B’ got the better of Broad Street winning 2-0; Sean Turney (1st) and Sherwin Fordyce (4th) were on the mark.
Ol Skool Ballers edged New Market Street 2-1 due to strikes from Ronell Roberts(10th) and Fabian Crawford (18th); Orlando Ricketts (3rd) scored for the losers.
