Tourism Minister tests positive for COVID-19

– President, PM, VP and other Cabinet Ministers test negative

President Irfaan Ali; Prime Minister, Retired Brigadier Mark Phillips; and Vice-President Bharrat Jagdeo, along with all other ministers of Cabinet, have tested negative for COVID-19; except Tourism and Commerce Minister Oneidge Walrond Allicock.
Foreign Affairs Minister Hugh Todd had already tested positive on Wednesday.
The President and ministers of Government took the test on Wednesday after it was revealed that Foreign Affairs Minister Hugh Todd had tested positive for the virus.
As such, the President, who believes in transparency, had made an announcement that all ministers who had been in contact with Todd are expected to be tested.
Minister Oneidge Walrond Allicock has since been placed in self-isolation, and will be monitored in accordance with the public health guidelines.
On Wednesday, President Ali had stated that Minister Todd recently had contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. “We’re dealing with a global pandemic, and I have assured all Guyanese that there will be transparency, openness and accountability in the way your Government operates…
“Minister Todd brought to my attention that he came into contact with an individual who tested positive for COVID-19,” the President noted.
In addition to the ministers being tested, the President also advised that those with whom Todd had come into contact should be tested.
Meanwhile, the Government of Guyana would like to urge all Guyanese to take all the necessary precautions to protect themselves and families from COVID-19.
“We recommend that you continue to practise social distancing, hand sanitisation and wearing your face mask,” Government has advised.
