“Toy gun” bandit nabbed after attempting to rob teen of motorcycle

A 20-year-old man carrying a toy gun was arrested on Tuesday after he attempted to rob a 16-year-old trainee mechanic at La Grange Old Road, West Bank Demerara (WBD).
Based on reports received, the teen had advertised the sale of his motorcycle on Facebook Marketplace during August. As such, the suspect reportedly contacted him and requested to inspect the bike.
After the inspection, the suspect informed the teenager that he would return on September 1 to complete the purchase.

However, on the day in question, the suspect made arrangements to meet the teen to complete the transaction, but instead, he whipped out a handgun and held the teen at gunpoint, during which he demanded that he hand over the keys to the motorcycle and a mobile phone.
Nevertheless, the teen put up a fight and managed to escape, but not before raising an alarm.
The suspect reportedly attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended by residents. A search of his body led to the discovery of a toy gun, which he used to threaten the teenager.
He was taken into custody pending charges.
