Transport hold their nerve to deny DCC by one run

Transport Cricket Club secured a dramatic one-run victory over Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) in the Georgetown Cricket Association Under-17 Eline Security Logistics 50-Overs competition yesterday at the Transport Sports Club, booking their place in the championship final.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Transport were dismissed for 186 in 45.4 overs, with lower-order batsman Prosper Jacobus producing a valuable unbeaten 53 from 72 balls to anchor the innings.
Jacobus received useful support from Emmanuel Lewis, who made 29 from 26 deliveries, including four fours and a six, while Hezekiah Hohenkirk contributed 21.
DCC’s bowling was led by Kaylon Callender, who finished with 3-27, while Jermane Grovsnor claimed 2-27.

In reply, DCC appeared well placed to chase down the target, with Grovsnor leading the charge. He smashed 53 from just 33 balls, including five fours and three sixes. Yeshua Hutson added 28, while Kaiden Smith made 25 as DCC progressed to 113 for three.
However, a dramatic middle and lower-order collapse shifted the momentum back in Transport’s favour, leaving DCC struggling at 160 for nine.
Makai Dowlin then produced a late resistance with an unbeaten 21 from 27 balls, but his efforts ultimately fell agonisingly short as DCC were bowled out for 185 in 38.2 overs, one run short of victory.
Nyia Latchman and Mickel Johnson spearheaded Transport’s successful defence with three wickets each, claiming 3-29 and 3-36, respectively.
The narrow victory sends Transport Cricket Club directly into the final, while DCC will now await the outcome of the Eliminator between Malteenoes Sports Club and Georgetown Cricket XI, with the loser of Saturday’s contest set to face the Eliminator winner for the remaining place in the final.
