Trial date set for ‘death threats’ barber

A trial date has been set for the West Bank Demerara barber who is accused of issuing death threats to one of his neighbours. On Monday, Magistrate Clive Nurse set November 11, 2016 as the date for the trial of the defendant, Dereck Hunte, 22, who is charged with threatening Petal Odie of Lot 385 Onderneeming, WBD on August 11, 2016. The prosecution’s case detailed that the barber would constantly threaten to kill Odie, and on the day in question, Odie was at home when the defendant approached her and an argument ensued. Hunte was said to have uttered a series of expletives, and later stated: “I’m gonna kill her!”The defendant is currently on a bond to keep the peace for the duration of the court case.
