Trio in court over water pump theft

Three men were released on $50,000 bail each after they denied being found with a water pump, which is suspected to have been stolen.
The charge against Jermaine McLeod, of Lot 122 Meadow Brook, East La Penitence; Michael Howes, 18, of Lot 103 Middle Road, East La Penitence; and Kenrick Charles, 25, of Lot 110 Eccles Park, East Bank Demerara, alleged that they had a water pump, suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained, in their possession on April 10 at Kitty, Georgetown.
All three men pleaded not guilty to the charge which was read by Magistrate Leron Daly.
The prosecution is contending that on April 10, Police ranks were on patrol when they stopped a car that the men were travelling in. A search was subsequently conducted on the vehicle and the pump was found in the trunk.
The defendants were questioned and none of them gave a reasonable explanation for how they came to be in possession of it.
The case will continue on June 14.
