Trophy Stall Angels continue impressive form

– Regal Masters defend 188

After a brief break, the Back to Eden/Permaul Trading/Khan’s Trading/Trophy Stall-sponsored softball tournament continued over the weekend, with several matches being played at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and the Jai Hind Ground in Albion.
Playing at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) Ground, Trophy Stall Angels stormed to a 48-run victory over the Swan Strikers. Batting first, Trophy Stall Angels accumulated runs from the get-go as they showed their attacking prowess, ending their innings on 144-6 off their allotted 15 overs with Ruth George scoring a magnificent 90 to lead her team to a defendable total.
Needing 145 for victory at 9.6 runs per over, Swan Strikers succumbed to the pressure as they were bowled out for 96. The chief tormentors were Aneisa Persaud who bagged 2-18, Matana Cambridge who claimed 2-21 and Alicia Allen who chipped in with 2-27.
Following their commanding victory over the Swan Strikers, the Trophy Stall Angels went on to trump 4R Lioness by 16 runs as they posted 143-6 in their allotted 15 overs. Top-scoring for the Angels once again was Ruth George as she followed up her 90 with a blistering 47; however, in reply, 4R Lioness could only muster 127-2 as they failed to get over the line despite only having lost two wickets.
Having lost their first match, Swan Strikers added some joy to their innings as they defeated Wellwoman by four wickets. Batting first Wellwoman posted 126-6 in their allotment of 15 overs as Joan Vansertima led the innings with 33 and Amanda Bobsemple supported with 23. The pick of the bowlers for Swan Strikers was W Davidson who bagged 3-27. In reply, Swan Strikers chased the score down in 14.4 overs with two balls to spare ending on 128-4 as Avina Adrian led the innings with a resistant 43, and D Jagdeo and Sherry Ann bagged two wickets apiece.
Following their defeat, 4R Lioness boosted their confidence as they defeated Wellwoman in a seven-over affair ending on 58-1, with Akaze Thompson remaining unbeaten on 20, Kaysia Schultz then came and bagged 2-9 as she then restricted Wellwoman to 46-5 as they lost by 12 runs.
In the masters category at the Jai Hind Ground, the in-form Regal Masters crushed Albion Masters by 49 runs as Regal racked up an impressive score of 188-6 in their allotted 20 overs. Top scoring for Regal once again were Mahase Chunilall with 51, Eric Thomas 45, and Samuel Kingston, 25. In reply, Albion fell to the pressure of excellent bowling spells by Tyrone Sanasie, who bagged 4-23, David Harper 2-0 and Saheed Mohamed 2-16 as they could only muster 139 all out in 16.4 overs.
The competition is organised by the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA), and also features teams in the Masters’ Over-50 category and Female Open.
