Truck damages GPL pole at Eccles, causing power outage

A truck transporting a container damaged a Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) pole at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, on Thursday afternoon.
According to GPL, the truck, which was bearing trailer number TAG 1835, came into contact with the company’s pole near the Eccles Industrial Site.
GPL said its technical teams evaluated the damage and conducted remedial works.
The utility company stated that it treated the incident seriously and intends to pursue all available avenues to ensure accountability. GPL described the occurrence as a reckless act that damaged the pole, disrupted electricity service, and posed a risk to public safety.
The company also reminded operators of vehicles and heavy equipment to exercise caution when working or travelling near electrical infrastructure. GPL noted that damage to its network can interrupt service and create safety hazards for road users, residents, and workers in the surrounding area.
