TSC leave DCC on the ropes

–Mohamed falls short of ton for Everest

An eventful opening burst from Transport Cricket Club (TSC) right-arm pacer Mark Baptiste has restricted hosts Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) to 25 for 4 in pursuit of 151 for first innings honours when the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Noble House Seafood Second Division two-day cricket resumed on Saturday.
The spritely Baptiste removed Brandon Jaikaran (00), Alphius Bookie (01) and Nkoise Beaton (01) to end the day with figures of 3 for 6 from six overs. Off-spinner Joel Spooner removed Premsham Gansham for 16 (2x4s) who looked the most assured of the batsmen.

Dexter George (left) and Reaz Ally leave the field after a difficult afternoon for DCC

Dexter George (03*) and Reaz Ally (01*) will resume the fight today.
Earlier, the early morning showers delayed the start of play. When action got going around mid-day, DCC’s new-ball pair of Carlton Jacques (2-14) and George (4-32) exploited the conditions and stunted any progress attempted by the visitors. Off-spinner Xavi Smith also supported with 2 for 38. TSC’s 150 was achieved from Spooner with a gutsy 51 and Anthony Antonio (30).
Over at Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC), the action got underway at 15:30h and at stumps University of Guyana reached 101 for 6 at stumps against Malteenoes Sports Club. After losing their first wicket at 35, irresponsible batting was the fail grade of the day. Keron Sewrignarine 21 (4x4s) and Devon George unbeaten on 26 (2x4s) played a counter-attacking partnership after their team slipped to 60 for 5. Captain Melry Stephenson made 19 at the top of the order.
Seamer Carlie Collins and spinner Marcus Watkins each took two wickets a piece.
At Camp Road, home side Everest Cricket Club were bowled out for 213 against Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) as Saheed Mohamed fell agonisingly short of a much deserved century. Mohamed’s 97 included five sixes and eight fours. Dwayne Adams supported with 33 (3x4s; 2x4s). For GCC, left-arm spinner Stephon Wilson was the chief wrecker with 4 for 25 while Marlon Persaud took 3 for 64.
Action in all three matches continue today.
