Guyana’s two-wheel sensation, Raverio Tucker is eager to put his machine to the test and put a break on the dominance of his Surinamese counterparts when the Caribbean Invasion Dragz meet gets underway today at the South Dakota Circuit.
“The Surinamese are tough, especially the bikers. They’re bringing fully equipped drag racing motorcycles so it’s going to be a very competitive racing. I’m expecting to run with them and hopefully pull off a win on the Surinamese,” the rider told Guyana Times Sport.
At the last meet in March, In the Motor bike category, Surinamese Rajiv Lalbiharie was deemed the champion.
Tucker, who will be using an Aprilia Tuono street fighter, and will be competing in the 1000cc further explained “I started preparations about a week ago, it was a last minute call but we have managed to complete preparations for today’s race.”
Tucker who only recently made his entrance into the circuit racing explained that his motivation for dragz also came from his uncle, Eric Tucker. The elder Tucker is a former race car competitor and is now passing on the baton.
“Well my uncle got me into drags. I was at work one day and he came to me and said “Raveiro why don’t you drag the Aprilia for me?” Well as you know, I’d never refuse anything that concern motorcycles or racing. I’m hoping to compete annually in drags as well as circuit racing if it goes well,” the younger rider disclosed.
But can he halt the Suriname juggernaut, Tucker explained precision will be key. “Basically to be successful and pull off wins I’ll need to focus on my launch and my shifting. Quick shifting is the key to victory and a good launch hopefully will give me the advantage on Sunday.”
A major change at the upcoming event will be the usage of the Time Bracket System instead of the Porta Tree Timing device which is aimed at creating a balanced battle ground. It means Tucker will have to wait until qualifying is over today to know precisely where he rides.
Free runs and classing will run from 09:00 to 11:30h while knockout begins at 12:00h.
Adults will be charged $1,000 for admission and Children under 12 year old, $500 while vehicles will be allowed at no additional cost.
