Guyana finished the 2026 International Powerlifting Federation World Masters Championships with 10 medals after Frank Tucker and Naranjan Singh added six in the equipped competition on Thursday in Reno, Nevada, USA.
The closing performances brought the country’s overall tally to seven silver and three bronze medals. Tucker, 74, collected four silvers in the 93kg Masters Four category, while Singh earned two bronze medals in the 83kg Masters Four division.
Competing at this level for the first time, Tucker secured silver in the squat, bench press, deadlift and overall total. He recorded best lifts of 115kg in the squat, 80kg in the bench press and 145kg in the deadlift for a 340kg total.
His squat and bench press matched his performances in the classic competition on October 15, while his deadlift was 12.5kg below the 157.5kg he achieved then. American William Clayton won gold in all three lifts and the overall total in the equipped division.
Tucker had already earned three silver medals and one bronze in the classic competition, taking his personal haul across both formats to eight medals.
Singh, who celebrated his 83rd birthday two days before competing, recovered from an unsuccessful squat session to claim bronze in the bench press and deadlift. The USA-based Guyanese lifter recorded 70kg and 110kg, respectively, after referees ruled that none of his three squat attempts reached the required depth.
Gordon Spencer finished fifth among five competitors in the 93kg Masters Three category. His best lifts were a 150kg squat, an 85kg bench press and a 157.5kg deadlift, giving him a total of 392.5kg. Roger Rogers also represented Guyana at the championships.
Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation President Franklin Wilson congratulated the athletes and Coach Kerma Singh, praising their discipline, commitment and determination. He said their achievements on the world stage could inspire the next generation of lifters.
The federation’s attention now turns to its final local competition of the year, the Senior National Championships, scheduled for November 29. The venue is still to be confirmed.
